The
founder of Phoenix Rising is Andrea Brachfeld,
-
who composes most of the
music and can be found
-
center stage playing the flute.
Andrea is a flautist,
-
flutist, flute player. It does not matter what
you're
-
called, if you can play.
She is also a schoolteacher. No, she did not HAVE to get a job because she
couldn't make a living playing music. She made a living playing music for
20 years before she became a teacher! It was a conscious choice which she
is still happy with. The only problem she faces is balancing these two
intense careers which she is fully dedicated to.
She has studied with Hubert Laws, George Coleman, Barry Harris, Jimmy
Heath among other jazz greats. She also completed her classical studies at
Manhattan School of Music studying with Harold Bennett, Andrew Loyla, and
Dave Friedman. She has had the opportunity to participate in many jazz
workshops with Stanley Cowell, Jazz Interactions and Jazzmobile.
She has played many different types of music including latin, jazz,
classical, country, and folk on the flute as well as on the piano and
guitar. These experiences have enabled her to compose many different
genres of music which have culminated in the formation of the group,
Phoenix Rising. At this point in her life the music reflects her life. The
process is ongoing and she is very happy to share the music with you!
