Born and raised in the Bronx, Steven Vibert Pouchie, son of Vibert Vernon Pouchie, is a self taught Vibraphonist born in the Bronx, who has been playing the Vibraphone professionally since 1982.  Steve has dedicated himself to following in the footsteps of the great Latin Jazz vibe players - Tito Puente and Cal Tjader, and began to form his present Ensemble in 1 982, out of tribute to Cal Tjader, who suddenly passed on in that same year.

Since then, Steve has performed regularly in many venues throughout the New York metro area, and has appeared or opened on the same stage with such artists as Tito Puente, Louie Ramirez, Johnny Pacheco, Dave Valentin, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Charlie Palmieri , Willie Colon, and others.

After graduating  from Bard College with a Bachelors Degree in Economics and an Associate Degree in Music, Steve embarked on a career of teaching Music, and currently directs the Music Department, at Discovery High School in the Bronx.

Steve is also the founder of the new York Latin Jazz Society a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of Latin Jazz music. To date title most successful venture of the organization has been the creation of an ongoing cable network series, entitled Latin Jazz - "Alive and Kickin' which airs weekly, on various Public Access channels, in the New York metro area.

One only needs to experience a single performance talented Vibist, to be witness to the intense work gone into making him, one of the most entertaining musicians around.
